Commission OKs plan for Providence Point

Courier Journal - 5/18/06

A plan to develop the vacant 18.8-acre Stallings property near Herr Land and KY 22 was approved last night by the Louisville Metro Planning Commission.

The project, called Providence Point, would have eight three-story condominium buildings, a three-story retail and office complex, and two additional retail and office buildings.

Variances dealing with building heights and other requirements must be approved by the Board of Zoning Adjustment, but the commission had the final say on the plan itself.

About 150 people attended the meeting, with a dozen speaking against it and three for it.

The plans for the site have failed in the past 15 years, largely because of neighborhood opposition.
